Halloween 2024: The spooky festival Halloween 2024 is around the corner, and people are busy in preparation for the festival. This festival is also known as All Hallows’ Eve, Allhalloween, or All Saints’ Eve. Traditionally, this festival is celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the winter season. However, Celtic people dedicate this day to remembering the dead. They believe that on All Hallows’ Eve, the boundaries between the living and dead get blur and spirits move freely through all lands.

The word Halloween or Hallowe’en is of Christian origin and dates back to 1745. The word Hallowe’en means “Saints’ evening”. This spooky festival is celebrated every year on 31st October to remember the dead and mark the winter season’s beginning. People visit the Church to pray for the dead and light candles on their graves. However, some historians believe that it is linked with Samhain means the end of Summer.

The ritual of knocking on doors and saying ‘trick or treat’ began in some European countries in the 16th century. There was a belief that people dressed in spooky costumes to save themselves from evil spirits.

On Halloween day, people decorate their houses with spooky stuff like artificial skeletons, etc. As October is the pumpkin season, people in the United Stated carve it into a spooky face and decorate it with some lighting in their garden. People watch horror movies with their family and friends, light bonfires, divination games, play pranks, apple bobbing, visit haunted attractions, and tell scary stories. They also make candles and distribute them among children.
