Navratri 2024, Day 6, Maa Katyayani: We entered Day 6 of Navratri 2024. This day is dedicated to Maa Katyayani, the form of Goddess Partvati. She is the warrior who killed the demon Mahishasur and because of this, she is also called Mahishasuramardini (slayer of Mahishasura).
Shardiya Navratri is the most significant Hindu festival. It falls during the months of September/October of the Gregorian calendar. As per the Hindu Lunar calendar, the festival begins from Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwini month. Every day of Navratri is dedicated to the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga.

Navratri 2024, Day 6, Maa Katyayani: Significance
Vamana Purana says that to kill the demon Mahishasura, energy rays of gods combined and crystallized in the Rishi Katyayana’s ashram. There he gave it a proper Devi form. The name Katyayani comes as the daughter of Katyayana.
She is worshipped as the Adi Shakthi form of Maa Durga. Unmarried girls observe the fast and worship this avatar of Goddess to get the husband of their wish.
Maa Katyayani has four hands and raids on the lion. She holds Khadga and the lotus flower in two hands. While the other hands are in Varadamudra and Abhayamudra. Maa Katyayani is associated with the red colour and Jupiter planet.

Maa Katyayani: Puja Vidhi
Devotees have to wear clean clothes after having a bath. Puja place should be cleaned and fresh flowers have to be taken. In front of Kalash and Devi idol, lit the Ghee Deepa. Devi mantras are chanted and Aarti is performed.
