Neeraj Chopra: Athletic Career
- In childhood, Neeraj was always teased for his obesity. So, his father joined him in a gym at Madlauda and later at Panipat
- The javelin thrower Jaiveer Choudhary recognized Neerja’s talent and he was the first coach of Neeraj as well
- Later that Neeraj was enrolled in Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, Panchkula where Naseem Ahmed trained him. Under him, Neeraj learnt the javelin throw and long run.
- At Lucknow’s 2012 junior championship. he did a throw of 68.40 meters
- At the senior and junior national matches, he achieved the throw of 70m and 81.04m respectively
- Then, he got a call from NIS Patiala
- Neeraj Chopra’s first medal was a silver at the Youth Olympics Qualification, Bangkok 2014
- In 2016, he did not qualified for the Rio Olympics
- He bagged a gold medal in the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland
