Google may be testing new eSIM features to allow multiple numbers in one smartphone. It will be called multiple enabled profiles which will be released in Android 13.
Android 13 will be the next Operating system by Google which is currently in development. Google keeps releasing new features for testers and the latest one which is arriving could make using multiple phone numbers which will make users much easier on one phone without having to change the SIM card.
Google patented this technology in 2020 and now it could be finally the time to implement it in Android 13. Multiple enabled profiles enable users to use multiple profiles on a single eSIM- which is possible enough to eliminate the use of two different physical SIM cards at the same time. Using an eSIM for two networks will give the user ability to use two mobile numbers and free up essential storage on the smartphone which improves its efficiency at most. The current method provides a combination of a physical SIM card and eSIM on phones such as Google Pixel, and Apple iPhones which is better but not convenient enough in markets where carrier-locked phones are not everyone’s favorites (such as India).
The MEP feature in Android 13 may or may not make it to the stable version as it depends on how well its test performs. Anyways, these features can be useful for its users and the mobile industry.
However, there is no certainty whether this feature is making its way to Android 13 or not. This feature could still be in the testing phase although Google patented this new feature back in 2020. If not in the upcoming Android 13, we can expect to see MEP as a feature in Android 14.
