Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi recently visited the families of farmers in Uttar Pradesh killed in a minister’s car collision while on official business, and paid tribute to their memory.
With his latest tweet, political strategist Prashant Kishor shows that he and the main opposition party in India are increasingly divided over “deep-rooted problems” in Congress.
A lot of media attention was paid to Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi’s Sunday visit to the families of farmers killed by a minister’s car in Uttar Pradesh.
Today, Mr. Kishor, in contrast to the Gandhis’ bold foray, appeared to urge caution.
In an upset victory over Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee was elected Bengal’s chief minister by a landslide. His retirement from election strategy was announced on NDTV in May, when Mr. Kishor, 44, announced his departure.
However, even though his I-PAC organisation is still active, Mr. Kishor is no longer strategizing for politicians. His assistance was crucial to Ms. Banerjee’s victory.
It was reported soon after that Gandhi was in discussions with the Gandhi family about creating a position within the Congress that would give him influence, power, and responsibility for reviving the organisation.
In the current political climate, many members of Congress feared that Mr. Kishor’s nomination would further fracture the party. An influential group of senior Congress leaders, known as the “G-23,” has complained repeatedly that decisions are being made without their input or discussion – and more importantly, accountability – for the Gandhis. They have also called for urgent elections for all Congress positions to be held within the next few months.
Mr. Kishor’s face-to-face discussions with the Gandhis piqued the interest of many. After that, the talks came to an end. In Mr. Kishor’s mind, he wanted to be in charge of the entire party apparatus.
His refusal to be held accountable for the upcoming state elections, including Uttar Pradesh, is said to be because he believes there isn’t enough time for him to correct the party’s course and accept responsibility for this election round. Rahul Gandhi was not happy with the results.
Soon after that, a well-known Congress leader in Goa declared his intention to join Mamata Banerjee’s camp instead. It was Mr. Kishor, he claimed, who was to blame for the change. During a press conference, Luizinho Faleiro acknowledged that he was approached by the man. Mr Kishor approached him about joining the party in Bengal in May, he said when asked about Mr Kishor’s approach: “Just few days ago.”
In any case, I don’t think he encouraged me to join the TMC. Going on the offensive against the BJP after declaring victory in Goa’s state elections has enraged Goans. Stopping the mining operation was the right thing to do. Everything in the financial sector is a mess. Unfortunately, no positions are available at this time. Goa is on the lookout for a new governor to take over as of right now. Only Didi has the ability to keep the ship afloat. Despite their best efforts, they continued to take advantage of her and abuse government institutions. He thinks the country needs a leader in the mould of Didi Khalifa.
Priyanka Gandhi has been named Uttar Pradesh’s new Chief Minister by the Congress. Home Minister Ajay Mishra hosted Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya’s birthday party on Sunday. Mishra is a junior minister in the government. Farmers demonstrating against three new farm laws passed by Mr Mishra’s convoy last year. For the farmers, this was part of a larger anti-farmer backlash.
A black SUV slammed into the farmers as it was approaching from the other direction. Because of the force with which the farmers were hit, the video is terrifying to watch. It was initially believed by the farmers that Ashish Mishra, the father’s only son, was behind the wheel. This man’s claim that the driver lost control after being stoned is unsupported by the facts. Retaliation led to the deaths of an additional four people, among them a journalist.
Mr. Mishra’s son, according to police, is accused of murder. In the last few days, his availability for television interviews had remained the same. Despite police posting a notice requesting his presence at the family’s home the night before, he failed to show up today for questioning.
There was a lot of drama on the Gandhis’ next trip. In Lakhimpur Kheri, where the farmers were killed, Priyanka Gandhi was being held about 450 kilometres away as of Monday morning. After refusing to leave, she protested her incarceration for the rest of the night. In an extensive interview with NDTV, she exposed the numerous flaws in the UP government’s attempt to prevent her from visiting Lakhimpur Kheri because she was carrying her phone. On Wednesday, her brother from New York City arrived in Lucknow. After learning that the only way he could reach his sister was in the back of a UP police car, he refused to leave the airport. He was allowed to drive his own car after a brief standoff.
They met the grieving families of the farmers who had been killed when they returned home. Critics say it validated the Gandhis’ reputation as infrequent politicians with questionable morals.
According to Mr. Kishor’s predictions, the BJP will win the next general election in 2024. However, the party needs a major reorganisation before it can claim pole position among anti-BJP parties. There is no truce between the Gandhis and “PK,” as this demonstrates.
