On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Cricket Advisory Committee named Rahul Dravid as the next head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Dravid will be the team’s head coach going forward, beginning with the upcoming home series against New Zealand on November 17. Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India’s coach will come to an end after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup.
“On Wednesday, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik were members of the Cricket Advisory Committee that unanimously named Rahul Dravid as Team India’s Head Coach (Senior Men). India will be led by the team’s former captain in the upcoming series against New Zealand. On October 26, the BCCI announced that it was looking for a replacement for Mr Ravi Shastri, whose contract expires at the end of the ICC T20 World Cup.” According to a statement issued by the BCCI,
“Mr Shastri (former Team Director & Head Coach), Mr B. Arun (Bowling Coach), Mr R. Sridhar (Fielding Coach), and Mr Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) are congratulated on their successful tenures by the Board. Under Shastri’s leadership, India’s cricket team performed admirably both at home and on the road. India rose to the top of the Test format during the first World Test Championship in England.
“India became the first Asian team to sweep a Test series in Australia, with victories in 2018-19 and 2020-21. India became the first bilateral T20I team in history to sweep New Zealand 5-0. India won all seven of its home Test series under Mr Shastri’s leadership “According to a formal statement.
It was a “absolute honour” for Dravid to be named head coach of the team.
The BCCI has appointed a new head coach for India’s senior men’s team. Rahul has had an illustrious career and is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He was one of India’s most prominent cricketers and the Director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Rahul’s efforts at the NCA have nurtured a number of young cricketers who have gone on to represent India at the international level. Rahul Dravid, a cricket hero, had an incredible cricketing career that cemented him as a sport icon. He led India to historic Test series victories in England and the West Indies, and he is the fourth highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. He scored over 10,000 runs in one-day internationals and was a key member of India’s squad that reached the 2003 Cricket World Cup final.
