Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Ahmedabad Today – Know All Details: In Ahemdabad, Gujarat, the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath has begun today, with no public participation. In view of the Covid-19 situation, public gatherings are avoided.
Before the idols of deities taking out for the yatra, today morning, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah has performed the Mangla aarti in the temple.
Generally, this annual festival witnesses a huge crowd and will be held for 12 hours. But this year, the duration is only 4-5 hours and without a large gathering. However, the entire 19 km route would be covered as usual.
Security Tightened in Ahmedabad
To strictly follow covid-19 protocols & guidelines and to avoid any inappropriate incidents, tight security arrangements have been made. In the entire yatra route, a curfew has been imposed to avoid people gathering for a glimpse of the deity.
The PTI reported City Police Commissioner has imposed a ban on the drones flying for a day in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city.
The Gujarat state government said that only three chariots and two other vehicles are allowed in the procession. Any other vehicles, singing groups, elephants, decorated trucks are not allowed to take participate in this yatra. The government of Gujarat has appealed to people to watch the live telecast only.
About Rath Yatra
According to the tradition, the yatra, led by the chariots, starts from the 400-year-old temple around 7 am and returns to the temple around 8 pm.
Usually, to get a glimpse of Deities, decorated elephants, and others, the gathering of lakhs of people will be happening on the Ashadhi Beej route.
Traditionally, the Khalasi community youth pull the chariots. Only 60 youths, 20 per chariot, will pull chariots, this year.
Apart from these 60 youths, the chief priest Mahant Dilipdasjee, some other priests on the chariot, and temple trustees are also taking part in this Rath Yatra, this time.
