Veteran Assamese actor Nippon Goswami died at a private hospital on October 27, 2024, Thursday, following a prolonged illness.
Nippon Goswami was aged 80 and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law. His wife had pre-deceased him in the year 2015.
Born in Tezpur to a singer mother and an actor father, Goswami made his acting debut as a child actor with the Assamese movie titled “Piyoli Phukan”.
Nippon Goswami was a classmate of Shatrughan Sinha, Subhas Ghai, and Navin Nischol among others.
He began his movie career as the lead actor in the Assamese movie titled “Sangram”.
Goswami has appeared in 50 Assamese movies, the prominent among those being ‘Sandhya Raag’, ‘Ajoli Nobou’, ‘Aparupa’, ‘Ghar Sangsar’, ‘Mukuta’, ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’, ‘Jon Jwole Kopolat’, ‘Jonaki Mon’, ‘Mitha Mitha Logonot’, ‘Siraj’, ‘Deutar Biya’, ‘Baibhav’, ‘Hiya Diya Niya’, ‘Morisika’, and ‘Kadambari’, among others.
Goswami’s last movie was ‘Lankakanda’ by Rajani Barman, which is an Assamese movie.
Nippon Goswami also appeared in seven Hindi movies including Bhabendranath Saikia’s ‘Kaal Sandhya’, Kalpana Lajmi’s ‘Daman’, and Rajkumar Kohli’s ‘Virodhi’ among others.
Goswami also acted in some TV serials including “Ritu Aahe Ritu Jaai”.
