Wildfires in Southern Turkey: The death toll from the wildfires in Southern Turkey has risen to four. The firefighters were battling for the third day also. Dozens of villages and hotels are evacuated. It is huge damage to nature.
President Tayyip Erdogan said that this week, more than 70 wildfires broken out in provinces on Turkey’s Aegean and Mediterranean coasts as well as inland areas. 14 were still burning, he added.
To battle the flames, planes from Russia and Ukraine helped, and another plane from Azerbaijan was also joining them.
Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said that the fires raged in six provinces and officials promised to catch every responsible one for this fire.
Villages and hotels have been evacuated and TV footage has shown people runnning away from fields as fires closed in their homes.
On Tuesday, a blaze tore from a pine forest north of Athens, damaged more than a dozen homes before it was brought under control.
Large swathes of pine forest in the mountainous north of Lebanon were also burned by the fires this week. By this, at least one firefighter was killed and some residents are forced to flee.
In Turkey, firefighters on the ground and in helicopters were fighting against fires. Fires killed three people in Manavgat which is 75 km east of Antalya. Urbanisation Minister Murat Kurum said that 27 neighborhoods were evacuated from that place.
In the Mugla’s Marmaris area, 290 km west of Manavgat, one person was found dead on Thursday.
Erdogan said that in 1140 sites, at least five planes, 45 helicopters, drones, and 1080 firefighting vehicles were involved in firefighting efforts.
As a precaution against fires, the Istanbul governor’s office banned entry to the forest until August end.
