Video streaming platform Netflix is changing its rules for password sharing outside a single account and soon will be charging extra for doing so.
Popular platform Netflix is planning to pause password sharing outside a single account by charging its user extra for doing so. It has raised its subscription prices for the UK and Ireland. The change is in the testing phase in Chile, Peru, and Costa Rica
Netflix’s Product innovation Director, Chengyi Long in a statement announced “accounts are being shared between households impacting the platform’s ability to invest in great new TV and films.
The main account holder will receive a mail with a code in it. To enable the new sub-accounts, the user must verify with the given code to add the additional device as a part of the household.
What’s Changing
Netflix is planning to add two new features –
Add an Extra Member: Standard and Premium Netflix plans will now be able to add sub-accounts for two people only.
Transfer Profile to a New Account: Basic, Standard, and Premium will now enable people who share their account to transfer people’s information either to a new account or extra member sub-account.
The giant platform has over 14 million subscriptions in the UK and 6 million in Ireland. The most favorable package for viewers is the standard subscription which offers HD streaming to up to two devices which has now gone up from $7.82 to $9.13 in the UK. Netflix has also hiked its monthly subscription plans in the US and Canada.
The new change will charge you and your friends for sharing the same account.
