Volkswagen Taigun has been finally launched in India at ₹10.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Finally, we say, because the SUV was shown off at the 2020 Auto Show, albeit in concept form, and we expected it to hit the market sooner. However, the delay can be attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as Volkswagen’s desire to launch the product during the festive season in India in order to generate significant sales. The Taigun is now a compact SUV that competes with models like the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming MG Astor. It is built on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq. The Taigun, like its Czech cousin, has been specifically designed for the Indian market. Bookings for the Volkswagen Taigun in India began last month, and the company has received 12,221 pre-orders so far.
The Taigun will be available in two trim levels. The Dynamic trim comes with the 1.0-litre engine and is available in three variants — Comfortline, Highline, and Topline. The second trim level, Performance, will be available in GT and GT+ variants and will be powered by a 1.5-litre TSI engine. The Volkswagen Taigun comes with a four-year service package that costs between $21,999 and $27,999, depending on the engine and transmission options.
Design
The Volkswagen Taigun does not have a butch stance, but it does stand out from its competitors. It has a stylish three-slat grille flanked by large LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The chrome accent on the front bumper, honeycomb-shaped air intake, and faux skid plate give the Taigun a muscular appearance, while the C-shaped LED tail lights joined by an LED strip and black panel improve the overall aesthetics. Roof rails, wide tyres, and a rear skid plate add to the SUV’s rugged stance. Volkswagen Taigun will also have a GT variant with sporty accents. This SUV has a boot capacity of 385 litres and a length of slightly more than 4,000 mm.
Features of Safety
The Taigun has up to six airbags, ABS, EBD, electronic stability control, multi-collision brakes, hill-hold control, a rearview camera, tyre pressure deflation warning, and other safety features.
Volkswagen Taigun Specifications

The 1.5-litre TSI engine, on the other hand, will produce 148 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque.
