Details About MLA Raghunandan Rao
It is a fact that Mr Raghunandan Rao is the elected MLA of Telangana, and he is well known for his work. But, there are several details that you need to know about him before you make a choice. Here are a few:
Educational background
Raghunandan Rao is a lawyer and politician from Telangana state. He belongs to the Velama caste. He is one of the candidates of the BJP in the forthcoming legislative assembly elections in Dubbaka.
Prior to entering politics, Rao was an advocate. During his professional career, he served as a news contributor for a reputed Telugu daily newspaper. He completed his LLB and B.Ed degrees from Osmania University and Karnavati University, respectively. After graduation, he enrolled as an advocate in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
Originally, he joined the TRS party in 2001, but later joined the BJP. In 2013, Rao was suspended from the party. His activities with the BJP have been described as a bit haphazard. At times, he ignored advice from senior leaders of the party.
During the last year, Raghunandan has come under scrutiny. The YSRTP chief YS Sharmila made strong remarks against Rao. Among other issues, Raghunandan has been accused of sabotaging a minor rape case. Moreover, the police have placed him under house arrest.
In the 2014 elections, Rao was a candidate from Dubbak constituency. He secured 22,595 votes. However, he lost the Member of Parliament elections for Medak District.
During the Lok Sabha election in 2019, he contested from the same constituency. While he received 15,131 votes, he was defeated by the TRS’s candidate, Solipeta Sujatha. Nevertheless, he has promised to construct a hospital in the area.
In 2007, Raghunandan Rao was alleged to have raped a woman. This allegation was denied by Rao. On the other hand, the case was registered against Rao by the Abids police. Interestingly, his party office is under the jurisdiction of the Abids police.
Raghunandan Rao is reportedly in the possession of assets worth over Rs.15,93,52,435. In addition to these assets, he also has a number of social networking accounts. These include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Raghunandan has been the official spokesperson for the BJP in Telangana. He was a member of the politburo of the TRS, as well. When the TRS party was formed, he was selected as the convenor of Medak district.
Political career
Raghunandan Rao is a politician and a lawyer. He was born in Siddipet in 1968. Prior to his political career, he was an advocate. In 2001, he joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party. Until 2013, he was a close associate of former Chief Minister K Chandra Rao. After his expulsion from the TRS in May 2013, he joined the BJP.
In 2007, Raghunandan Rao was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. Later, he was cleared of the allegations. At present, he is the BJP’s official spokesperson for the Telangana state. He was a candidate in the Dubbaka Legislative Assembly Elections.
He was a staunch supporter of the Telangana statehood movement. His campaigning was energetic and he won the Dubbak constituency with a margin of 1074 votes. The candidate has a strong social media team which frequently makes appearances on TV channels.
During his tenure with the TRS, Raghunandan was district president of Medak District. A politburo member of the party, he also handled bail petitions for former Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Hyderabad Chief Minister K. Naidu.
Before his political career, he studied law at Osmania University and Karnataka University. Besides, he completed a post-graduate diploma in human rights from the Central University of Hyderabad. Currently, he is a member of the Bar Association of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
As a legislator, he has an uneasy relationship with local leaders. While he won the Hyderabad civic body elections from Mangalhat division, he has faced several problems with the local leadership. This has resulted in him splitting from the BJP three times. Nevertheless, he has gained some support from the BJP’s state leadership.
In the assembly elections of 2018, he was the only BJP candidate. He has a criminal record and is the lone representative of the Lodha community. Despite his shortcomings, he is a rising star in the Telangana politics. However, the Telangana government has repeatedly asserted that it will uphold a single set of values. It has also said that it will not violate anyone’s rights. Hence, Raghunandan believes that he will be held accountable.
Assets and liabilities
The Telangana Assembly elections are underway. If you haven’t yet made a decision on who to vote for, you should definitely consider the wealth of candidates in the fray. In particular, there’s one candidate in Telangana with a fortune worth more than Rs 700 crore. He’s a self-made businessman who has a well-connected network of friends and associates. However, he’s not exactly the richest politician in the state.
The Telangana chief minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, says he is confident of winning the polls. But he’s not ready to make the Assembly election a prelude to the Lok Sabha. So, he wants the Assembly election to occur six months before the ensuing parliamentary elections.
On the other hand, the BJP has its doubts. For example, Raghunandan Rao, who was elected as the MLA for Dubbak in 2008, had a good run, but was eventually expelled from the party. His discontent was evident in his complaints about being sidelined by a BJP State president whose name is Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Not to mention, the party leadership didn’t appoint a floor leader in the GHMC.
It’s no secret that the BJP hasn’t been as strong as it used to be. This was the reason why Raghunandan wanted to delegate responsibilities to all three MLAs. Hence, he approached senior party leaders and the result was a rift.
Despite the fracturing, the Telangana Chief Minister’s party has still been able to win the elections. With Raghunandan and his comrades – Marri Janardhan Reddy and G Yoganand – in the fray, the BJP’s chances of re-election in the state are looking better than ever. Despite a series of electoral mishaps, the party has managed to win the byelections in several districts.
One of the most important functions of a government is to regulate the economy. As such, the government aims to boost the growth rate through tax cuts and other incentives. One of the biggest ways to do this is through investments in infrastructure. These include the construction of roads, railway lines, ports and airports. Of course, this won’t be possible if you don’t have the money to invest in such projects.
Reaction to the gangrape case
A gangrape case against a BJP MLA in Telangana has triggered a storm of controversy. The MLA claimed that his son was responsible for the assault on a minor girl. He also released a video of the assault. This was criticized by opposition parties. In addition, a group of netizens demanded that the police book the MLA.
Rao said his video proved that his son was involved in the sexual assault. However, he was careful not to disclose any information about the victim. As a lawyer, he knows the Supreme Court guidelines for making evidence public.
However, some opposition parties claim that the police had shielded the suspects. They allege that the incident took place in the posh Jubilee Hills area. There, a 17-year-old girl was returning home from a party when she was allegedly gangraped by five men. She was subsequently dropped off in a multi-purpose vehicle, which was later recovered from a farmhouse.
The victim was alleged to have been raped in the car. The car appeared to have been cleaned after the assault, according to forensic teams. However, the girl is still under trauma and was slut-shamed by her family.
Abids police booked Raghunandan Rao under Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code. This section of the code states that the person who discloses the identity of a person accused of a crime faces imprisonment for a period of up to two years.
BJP leaders, including a MLA from the Dubbak district, have been on the defensive. The party has staged protests over the attempt to cover up the incident. It has also asked the state government to ensure a fair investigation.
Congress, however, slammed Raghunandan Rao for his actions. In the past, a photograph of him with MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi has been posted on social media. Earlier, a group of JanaSena activists had protested at the police station. Now, the family of the victim has threatened to withdraw the case.
Various opposition parties have urged the government to file a CBI probe into the incident. The ruling party, TRS, has said the law would take its course.
